For many years the Christmas Tree has been a symbol of Christmas dating back to the 17th Century in Germany. The fir tree symbolized the tree of life in the Garden of Eden. The evergreen fir tree is a sign of hope throughout the winter season. It started with candles, not lights on the tree and represents have a deeper meaning showing Christ, Specifically, his self-giving love and gift of life to us. The warmth and glow provides hope. Now, where did Santa come from? The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nicholas was born sometime around 280 A.D. in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. Much admired for his piety and kindness, St. Nicholas became the subject of many legends. In December 1773, and again in 1774, a New York newspaper reported that groups of Dutch families had gathered to honor the anniversary of his death.
