Welcome to Buy Local Michigan where in this episode we learn about En Gedi A Safe Place for Youth. Craig Owens, the director of the En Gedi Youth Center in Cedar Springs Michigan educates us on EnGedi and their role in the community.
EnGedi is an actual place south of Jerusalem on the Dead Sea. The definition of En Gedi means ‘Safe Place – Protected Place’. The Youth Center was created to provide a nurturing environment after school for the young people of Cedar Springs. Every month there is one big event at the High School opening up activities for everyone.
Located in the Red Hark Elementary building EnGedi provides 6th to 8th grade students a fun place to go Monday through Thursday. We learn that the sixth grade year is the most predicable year that defines young people to how they grow academically and socially.
Every day begins with homework time. High School students and members of the community come in to help mentor and tutor the youth.
EN GEDI A Safe Place for Youth is available at no cost to students. To learn more go to engediyouthcenter.com. Get involved, volunteer and help support the young people of Cedar Springs Michigan.
