The Ironton Ferry crosses the south arm of Lake Charlevoix. The ride takes around ten minutes when traveling between Boyne City and Charlevoix. Looking to take a different path when discovering Michigan – check out the Ironton Ferry. The ferry is located about six miles south of M-31 in Charlevoix on M66.
The Ferry went into service in 1883 with the current vessel seeing operation in 1925. The ferry is 50 feet long and 30 feet wide and weighs around 43 ton. There are two cables guiding the ferry since it does not have any rudders. The cable is below the water line twenty five feet which allows boats to pass. In 2013 the ferry went through major updates to the cabin, engine and transmission.
